Kentucky Chapter
September, 2005
Chers collègues,
Bienvenue à tous et à toutes! We
finally have our own website and are connected not only to each
other, but also to the National American Association of Teachers
of French and to the Kentucky World Language Association. This
is just a beginning, as I hope that you will send your
suggestions as to how this website can better serve French
teachers and French programs in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
First of all, I hope to see all of
you at our September 24 breakfast meeting, scheduled to take
place at 8:00 during the Kentucky World Language Association’s
annual conference in Louisville. Numerous workshops/sessions,
along with an immersion dinner at a French restaurant, will be
offered specifically for French teachers at the conference. In
addition to sharing information from the AATF Conference in
Québec last July, I am pleased to announce that our new Regional
Representative, Randa Duvick, will be in attendance at our
meeting. She has assumed her new duties and is anxious to meet
us and to assist us in our goals of sustaining, increasing, and
improving the teaching of French.
At our meeting, I will be seeking
suggestions from you as to what you might like to see at
our winter/spring meeting and as to when and where
you would prefer to have that meeting scheduled. Some topics
under consideration are advocacy—helping to preserve and to
increase French programs, helping to meet KERA goals by
supporting core content in our classes, and other pedagogical
topics. What would be most beneficial to YOU? When would be
the best timing for having the meeting—winter or spring? These
meetings should be scheduled in a place that is accessible for
as many members as possible—do you have ideas as to where that
might be?
Lastly, please come with ideas as to
how our local chapter can best serve your needs. Please
consider becoming involved by running for an office in our
chapter next year. Bring as many colleagues as you can (AATF is
offering a special 3 for 1 membership deal). I will have AATF
materials to distribute and, of course, there will be door
prizes for some lucky winners! I look forward to hearing from
you and to seeing you in Louisville on September 24.
Bonne rentrée,
J.
